That's the old one you just replaced, right? Not the new one?

Just a tip for Ya, Project510...
When reinstalling that exhaust manifold. Don't fully tighten up all or any of the nuts before getting everything fitted up. Once everything is in place loosely. Only then should you start to torque the exhaust manifold nuts(12mm) first. Then the three 14mm nuts loosely, as there will be some wiggling of the manifold and at the mid pipe to get everything lined up and then final torques applied. Also, be certain that the exhaust manifold studs are tightened down into the cylinder head. I double nutted the studs using flanged nuts to check mine and some were alarmingly loose! CAUTION: DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! The cylinder head is only aluminum! Exhaust manifold 12mm nuts = about 17 ft./lbs.(spark plug tightness) Midpipe 14mm nuts(should be new ones) + about 37 ft./lbs. Use new manifold gaskets and Midpipe crush washers too. 2x manifold gaskets; 2x - crush washers for the Midpipe Last edited by PorknBeans; 05-12-2022 at 02:13 AM. |

She drove home under her own power. First time the truck has gone a public road further than a mile in over a year. Super happy to have her home. Noticed a couple things on the way home though.
The reason I even started all this work was because of the the rattle at startup and at higher RPMs. Start up and idle rattle is all gone 100% of the time. The truck has never sounded so quiet in the 18 years I've been around the thing. However, it still rattles exactly at 3500 rpm in 1st through 3rd, and highway speeds in 4th and 5th its between 3500-4000 say around 3700 ish. It sounds like its right under the center of the dash. Any ides on where to check I will gladly take. I'm certain the chain, guides and tensioner are in, tight and good to go. I need different or well longer lug nuts for the new wheels. So I couldn't put them on. Gonna try to get those today. Needs a full engine detail Remining list of items to repair are: Replace engine mounts Remove/correct all the rust spots replace ball joints install belltech drop kit Detail interior add Bluetooth head unit and upgrade speakers

If not, check the heat shield for the exhaust manifold.

This also is not loose and if it matters is brand new. But the truck made the same noise with the old one on there prior to me taking anything apart. Doesn't make the noise in Neutral so could it be a bearing in the transmission? That's going to be a real disappointment as I just had the clutch and flywheel changed. Got the wheels on. They look nice I think. I need to lower this thing asap now haha. ![]() The truck feels so good under 3500. Nice and smooth like it should be. I almost cant believe it. Just need to figure out that rattle after 3500. But at least its drivable.
