Unhappy horrible mileage

I have a 1992 hardbody 4 cyl 5 speed and I am averaging 15 mpg with a mixture of city and highway driving. It doesnt seem to be burning excess fuel/oil/etc. and it seems to be running fine. Others are getting 20+ mpg and how they do that is beyond me..
what can affect the mileage this much?

Is your parking brake on? I will say when you city drive are you stuck in traffic for long periods of time. I know nothing really about the 4 cyl motors, I might ask how many miles are on it. Does it have a clogged catilic converter or air filter. Is it 2wd or 4wd, std or ext cab, oversized tires. A brief history might help if you have any.

I think a lot depends on how heavy the right foot is.

Its a 4 cyl, regular cab, 2wd. Im sure the parking brake isnt affecting it at all. Tires are 30X9.5R15. Most of my driving is city"ish", not stuck in traffic, some stoplights, nothing out of the ordinary. The right foot is a little heavy, although Im not really pushing the truck past 3K most of the time.
I bought the truck last year so history is basically non existant.

tires are killin your mpg, lil motor just doesn't have the grunt to work well with them. Your luggin the motor or havin to keep the revs too high to maintain speed. I tell ya I wish I had seen this forum before I bought my HB and invested money and time into it to get it road ready, I wouldn't have bought it. my wifes 2002 1500 2wd silverado with a 4.8 v8/auto trans got 22-23 mpg hwy and 15-17 around town. shame a lil truck like this doesn't get a minimum of 30 mpg, aerodynamics are bad I know but they are a light truck.

You guys are not alone
same thing with my 93 ext cab I get HORRIBLE mileage. It's so horrible my uncle's v8 f150(I've drove it before) gets better mileage than my 2.4 I have done everything I could think of I've spend over 2 grand to rebuild the engine last year with brand new everything (pistons, fuel injectors, head job, gaskets, performance sparkplugs, etc) you name it I've done it. I still get horrible gas mileage I don't know what to do anymore sometimes I've thought of getting rid of it the only reason why I still have it its because I love the truck
