Default My 1988 D21 2wd Single cab

Hello all!

I am currently doing everything under the sun to my truck, i bought it not knowing a damn thing about D21s at all and ended up biting me in the ass. Bought it carburated not knowing it is part of the 3.5 year run of Z24i engines so eventually i found that i needed an TBI unit for my truck, ordered one from ebay and found one at the local yard luckily. Slapped it on and it purs now, pretty sure the fast idle wax leaked out as it was all overt the MAF but i have adjusted it away so the truck starts and idles at 800rpm which shouldnt be a big deal since i live in California, it doesnt get that cold here. Also had to scavange a fuel pump as i had a low flow one with the carb.

After that i dropped it on 2" drop spindles and 4" 6 degree blocks from chassis tech (over tightened one of the ball joints and split the recieving end on the drop spindle and they replaced it for free! love that company), redrilled the hangers, dropped the torsion bars down, and spaced the carrier bearing up an inch.

I also gutted the interior and cleaned and sound deadened the interior, mounted speakers behind the seat and new speakers in the doors. New head unit and inline amp to tie it all together. put in a S13 short shifter as well

Now due to the drop i have a wild granding noise coming from the rear or transmission somewhere, im going to drive it a little more to try to find out whats going on but the rear main seal is leaking so i need to pull the trans anyways

My write up is a little all over the place but ill be updating as i go.

Love that early Pathfinder front end. I have it on my 1992 king cab also. Not a fan of the flares tho, maybe because I'm not in my 20s anymore.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to attempt to replace the window track and seal this weekend, will be uploading more pictures of the process afterwards! Learned the hard way that the seals don't do a damn thing when I washed it

Flares are temporary. I want to foam and fiberglass some real lover fenders eventually but I am going to four link it first.

Update:

the grinding noise went away, so thats a plus! I am guessing i need to shorten my drive shaft by like a half an inch anyways though. but thats kind of back burnered for now.

Because I decided to start cutting the frame, went and picked up some 2x4x1/8 box steel to box in the rear of the frame to protect the fuel tank as far back as possible (with thanks from Rohde Fab for the fuel tank relocation kit) and take out the crossmember for the spare, relocate the center crossmember back further to make room for my coilovers (350lb spring), and start getting things ready for the four link + pan hard bar set up. Im going to have to run no bed or cut my bed because the fuel tank will be about 5.5" above the bed floor.

Doing things way out of order but on the bright side, itll be really easy to pull the trans now

Updated pictures from original link.
