Question (need help please)

So, My 95 nissan hardbody the ecu isn't reading codes, & the green light only flashes when turned the dial away from diagnostic mode, and the green light and red flashes together about 5 times, but it doesn't do JACK SHIT in diag mode... Maybe the ecu is bad? the guy i bought truck from said it was the ecu... maybe this is correct? but i tried reading the codes and nothing happens, the red light stays solid on, it doesn't flash at all.. stays red also theres a sound on the fuse box by the battery thingy it is making 5 loud noises along with the check engine light, it goes tick tick tick tick tick, 5 times when i turn the key (on) engine off.the check engline light is also flashing along with the noises in sequence

ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES AND GOES, BUT WHEN ITS ON MY TRUCK HAS NO POWER, LIKE IT STARTS but first thing in the morning when i start it , it starts dies, starts dies, starts dies, starts dies, like a few times then it wants to run but when it does it has no power maybe 30% throttle and when you floor it it sputters and acts like it wants to die, this is when check engine lights on, but when its off it's completely fine, has power, nothing is wrong with it then..... I'm lost...

Please provide some additional info. 2 or 4WD? 4 or 6 cyl? Auto or manual trans?

2 things:


1) a descriptive title does wonders. Like many others I just glaze over any thread with a non descriptive title full of emoticons.



2) CEL is emissions only.



First step Id do is check the ignition timing. Always good to make sure its OK.



Next Id look at the O2 sensor as it is used for your fuel mixture.





Do you have a copy of the FSM?



I cannot help you on the ECM, mine is completely different.

Timing has to be fine, I believe, cause the check engine light comes and goes...

heres the video, but when i cut the video out, it started to run but was idling at 1.5k rpm... and it does drive but no power. and when the check engine light is off, it has power, and doesn't do what it does in the video... it starts fine, idles fine and runs fine, when check engine light is off, but when its on it does this, and has no power.

I'd be suspicious of the O2 and the MAF.


When it's running crappy unplug the MAF. If it clears up the MAF is bad.



Wish I could help on the ECU. Some of the guys with a newer truck will chime in.

as of right now, the trucks running perfectly fine, all of a sudden no CEL nothing, it's like the CEL, Was never on in the first place... it's so fucking weird!

Also on the ecu, when i did do the diagnostic thing, the red and the green leds, flashed 5 times very fast, I'm guessing code (55) for no malfunction, well why the hell is it running rough as hell and losing power when cel is on, but when its off its fine and has full power ect ect ect
