Sheep quality rockauto parts...and ebay too. spamazon sucks

so, i got my first package of parts today for my timing chain project that has snowballed into a heavy spring maintenance project.

i'm really happy with the quality/countries of origin so far...i tried to go with good name brands.

not everything will be done at once, but the prices were right and the treasury check cleared! probably shocks and bushings first, then the engine compartment.

mahle MS16196 intake and MS15661 exhaust gaskets_JAPAN

fel-pro MS95472 intake gaskets for extras_USA

fel-pro BS40384 crankshaft seal_USA

fel-pro OS30617C oil pan gasket_PORTUGAL

hastings/baldwin GF235:8 fuel filter_USA

bendix H5096:8 caliper slide pins_JAPAN

beck/arnley 0396503 camshaft bore plugs_JAPAN

VDO/continental heater blower motor_MADE IN CHINA, but seems to be well made, heavy as a stock one. they are an OEM supplier...it turns smooth, i ordered it to have a spare. it was $9.00. closeout.

and a bonus for me !..
i ordered 6 of the small bulbs for the 3rd brake light/hvac dash controls just for extras...they were $.76 each on closeout, they sent me 6 boxes of 10 bulbs each !! dusty old boxes, guess they were tired of looking at them.

i will be good on bulbs for a while... the long brown box is the fel-pro intake gasket

i am still waiting for KYB shocks, Energy Suspension leaf spring bushings, a Victor Reinz valve cover gasket, and Dorman door pins and bushings on this order ...

ordered the OSK MADE IN JAPAN N115K timing chain kit from ebay and an AISIN water pump and some small stuff from spamazon.

i had my cart saved and the Aisin water pump on spamazon went from $30 to $36 overnight WTF?, and the CLOYES timing set i ordered went up from $55 to $79, 5 minutes after i ordered......but then they offered me a $60 credit to use their store card, so fu** 'em !

AND my total in cart was way too high, i looked and they default to the most expensive shipping options, and tried to sneak sign me up for PRIME, i had to opt out of prime for each item.

god, they really suck, i'm only buying what i have to, really prefer ebay.

looks like packages daily for the next week or so...

Amazon does that to me too -- often raises the prices if I wait to buy. Not by mistake, so I'll only go there if I plan an immediate purchase and their item is better or cheaper.

Wasn't happy with the new alternator they sent -- looks great, but has a bearing whine on startup (that goes away).

The Evergreen brand timing chain kits at Amazon are good. USA supplier out of SoCal. Unfortunately, they don't have the four banger sets in stock right now.

However...Magic Man Martin in Spokane once again has the self-adjusting tensioner kits going.

For non-mainstream stuff amazon is just a "marketplace" not an actual vendor. The prices vary wildly because whatever seller is selling the thing sets the price rather than amazon itself.

I had a fuel petcock on my amazon buy list for a while that was $8. The seller apparently only had 1 left and dropped the price to $3. I bought it and they haven't stocked any more of those sense.

I've never had a problem with FelPro gaskets. My first choice, after OE/OEM, usually.

yeah, i bought some duplicates of some things that were inexpensive, to compare the quality and have spares ...like fel-pro and victor reinz intake gaskets, less than a dollar apiece !

fel-pro is part of Federal-Mogul corp
reinz is part of the dana/spicer/reinz/glaser group, i like 'em both, reinz a little more, have a good head gasket coming from them also.

got another Rock Auto shipment in today, a very high quality Reinz valve cover gasket, shown here next to OEM to compare.

it also came with cam plugs as a bonus, good quality on those.
also have the beck/arnley plugs that were super cheap.

reinz VC gasket_USA

Fel-Pro rear main bearing set_bearing seal is from Japan, retainers from USA

for my 97 pathfinder fog light bulbs(for my D21)-
-osram night watcher bulbs_Japan

Energy Suspension rear leaf bushings_USA

TYC front turn signals_Taiwan, very well made and NICE! TYC & DEPO make the best reproduction lights, i think. real close to OEM, and DOT compliant.

and my trim tools, happy with these, too. i've been using a cut off nylon spatula from dollar general for a panel tool until now!

orange and black sets are the same.
just different colors, might need 2 of the same at once to git 'er loose.

i had a notice in my mailbox yesterday with my mail..."a pkg was undeliverable/pick up at post office"...the TYCs had a note in the address,
"leave at front door." lazy fuck didn't want to walk 50 feet, so i had to go to town this morning to get my stuff. i was waiting on my front porch when he came by so i could meet him halfway, didn"t get the chance.

it's always something...

AND...the KYB shocks were on the fedex truck for delivery today.
he pulled out of the "next to me" subdivision (3 doors down) and went out of town, he usually stops on the way back in, since that puts me on his right side .

1 hour later got a notification, delivery is tomorrow instead, shocks now back at the terminal.

I've also not had any issues with FelPro, my "go to".

Exclamation

i went ahead and ordered a HITACHI oil pump today. #OUP0023
made in JAPAN and it's an OEM part...feels good, man !

ebay has em for $60ish, about $68 with tax.

i ordered mine from AUTOHAUSAZ, a Phoenix, Arizona based brick and mortar business.
they offer 3 year warranties on everything, and flat rate shipping depending on the weight.

mine was over a Lb, less than $99, so $9.99.
but over a Lb, over $99, for $8.99.

lots of OEM D21 parts on their site, Hitachi & Aisin included.
and european import parts, too.
audi, vw, porshe, benz, saab, volvo, bmw parts...

their parts brands are here...https://www.autohausaz.com/brands

so...i got an envelope from amazon and a big box from rockauto today.

amazon- 2 MAHLE crank seals_JAPAN

after watching cadillacdude1975 and mr.510 rebuild their respective engines, i wanted a few spares of things just in case.
the parts were cheap/free to ship in a group, that's why there are some duplicates on my list.
some kits already had what i needed, but i have bought extras to compare the quality between brands/vendors, then i'll use the best ones and save the extras for another project.

RockAuto- MAHLE timing/front of motor seals, crank seal included_JAPAN
it had 2 oil pump gaskets stuck together, so another spare!

Front KYB gas-a-just shocks_JAPAN
Rear KYB gas-a-just shocks_JAPAN
very high quality, tubes are real stout, and welded pretty. 12 lbs. for all 4.

2 pkgs Dorman door hinge kit_TAIWAN
(does 1 door)

so far, i have only USA and JAPANESE made engine parts,
except for a Fel-Pro oil pan gasket from Portugal,
It's no problem. Real good quality.

i have a MR JIM chain tensioner ready to go,
it's a surefire "start up rattle" solution.

OSK timing set should be here by Monday or so. (i'm posting on Wednesday)

and REINZ head gasket and head bolts by Tuesday.

i plan on waiting until everthing is here, then order OEM/Nissan Genuine Parts if the quality isn't up to snuff on anything.

i'm really pleased with RockAuto so far.

For everything but exhaust gaskets I like felpro. I used to blow out exhaust gaskets like they were free before I went to Remflex. Gotta use their 300zx gaskets and cut one side so it can be flipped to match the pickup stud pattern but they have never failed on me. Once I went to those I was blowing out gaskets where the Y pipe meets the cat back so I had to weld that!

Amd, I'm at 22 of those little magnets! I order a lot of shit from rock auto.
