Red face Truck won't turn over, sounds like it's trying to crank in slow motion.

Hey everybody got a questions of possible machine failure I just replaced all my gaskets after having a blown head gasket. And may have made some errors if you want I posted a thread "meet Betty-Lou" in project build. But anyway I'm trying to see if maybe I installed my camshaft wrong or my rocker arms or something I mean can you install hydraulic rocker arms wrong and how would you know? Also can some one tell me which fuel line goes to the fuel pressure regulator? The one with fuel filter or without?

Hopefully you got the cam-timing correct. I think we have interference engines (at least the KA24E is).

Yeah ka24e and I'm not sure I mean I'm bout to tear back into it and check it all out and yeah I read about that I just really need to know what to look for to make sure it's right and all I mean I read the manual and googled some stuff but sometimes it helps to have some good outside experience saying what to do. Not just the voice in your head or voices

To me - anything causing it to crank over slowly would be in the starter circuit. Battery, wires, connections, ground connections, bad starter.

The other things you mentioned would stop it from starting, but i don't believe they would cause it to crank slowly.

Might be worth trying to start it at night and have a little spray bottle with water to mist your engine bay and check for some arcing.

I don't think you can install rocker arms incorrectly.... although i have VG30.

If you don't have a FSM yet, it's DL-able. jp2code has a link in his sig... look for it.

Probably at least as bad as a Jeep so worse than a cow.

No need. I'm here.

I was originally thinking you might have a dead battery. It could be that simple.

Checking the fuel lines can be easy if you have a friend. Disconnect both hoses from the fuel filter and stick them in a can or jar. Now have someone turn the key to the On position while the other person looks to see which line has fuel squinting out.

Hmm, Id figure it would be a loud bang and crash if that were the case. Lotta torque in that starter.
My thoughts anyways.

If the timing is way off it would lag hard when cranking.

After some googling, i think you're right...

I'd start by making sure the distributor is pointing at plug wire #1 at TDC.
