Default Drove fine, now no start

Hi all, been a while as I've just been enjoying driving the truck lately.

Today I took it out for a Sunday cruise, stopped for 20 minutes to get some food. When I tried to start my truck it cranked once, sorta slowly. It's been doing this lately, but has never not started. So, I turned the key again and this time all the lights in my dash went out. So, I waited a few minutes, tried again. Every time I'd push the clutch pedal in, all the lights in the dash would go out. So, I called the tow truck which is a three hour wait with AAA. So, I went for a walk, came back and now I see that if I open the door, the bells chime. If I turn the key, the chime stops. If I put the cabin light on, the chimes stop, if I put the headlights on, the chimes stop, etc..

Anyone have any thoughts? To be clear, first time I tried to start it I had dashboard lights that went out when I turned the key. Now I basically have no lights at all, just the chimes which also go out with any more load.

How old is the battery? ...or you're not charging the battery. Let's start here...

Probably at least as bad as a Jeep so worse than a cow.

Thanks for the reply, bought the battery a year and a half ago. Somebody with a battery charger stopped by and let me use it while I've been sitting here- didn't help at all.

As an aside, the battery died once from sitting for a long time but I've been driving the truck for four weeks since then and have done over 500 miles.

If you can safely do so, because you have a manual transmission, you can try a roll-start.

Clean/check all you battery cables, and replace your ground strap. You may still need a new battery and/or alternator, though.

Thanks lugnut, I didn't think about trying to roll-start it perhaps I'll give it a shot if I get brave enough- there's a lot of traffic here. As for cables, being the genius that I am I didn't bring cables- I only carry air fresheners and a bunch of CD's

I called AAA because my estimated 3 hour wait was going on 4.5 hours. They told me the truck potentially won't come until 8 or 9 am or even later but if I wanted I could leave my truck unlocked with the keys in it and go home. Obviously that's an insane thing to suggest. Anyway, some guy came by and I asked him if he had cables. He went home and got a jump box and cables. Another guy had tried to help me earlier with one of those jump boxes and it didn't work. But, for some reason this time it did. So, truck drove home nicely. As to why the battery died, ie do I have a bad alternator, that will have to wait for another day. Thanks for the ideas y'all, have a good night.

Also maybe your starter could be going bad and pulling too much current?
Check the alternator when you have a chance.

With "service" like that, why bother? Call a friend, or tow companies yourself.

If not already, Uber, etc. could add low cost jump-starts to their provided services. {If not thought of yet, I require a 10% of the gross for use of the idea.}
