I've got a tool box on my truck and I'm wanting to mount and wire a power inverter inside of it for when I go camping or out in a field doing whatever that requires power. Anyone done something like that before?

Run a power wire from battery with fuse and ground. The kit is pretty straight forward with instructions.

you can go to home depot, to the electrical section. there is a chart there that calculates the correct wire size based off of how much current and amps your wanting to use for the inverter.
get a good fuse too so you wont have a fire or anything like that. |

Instead of mounting one in the box, I would just get one that is big enough to run what you want, but make sure that it can clip to the battery instead of the lighter. The amount of time that you will actually use them is very low. and it only takes a second to hook them up.

You can also run a power and ground wire into your toolbox and use a Anderson Connector so the inverter is removable, see 4th row down in this link:
http://www.texasindustrialelectric.c...connectors.asp These are the same connectors ( in the appropriate size) that they use for the plug in jumper cables, they are nice as you can get the rubber cover to cover the hard wired end when not in use.

Good info guys. Thanks a lot! Yeah I'm setting my truck up for camping. I plan on doing alot this fall and going into the winter. I'm usually always doing something that would involve me needing power lol. Looking to make it more permanent to the truck. My buddy was even telling how we could set up and put an outside GFI on the outside of my tool box.

I have a AC outlet inside my work truck, My job installed this HUGE inverter in one of the bins in the utility bed, this inverter is about 2' long, so I bought a AC cord that had a plug on one end, ran it thru the back of the cab than wired it to a AC electrical box, plugged it into the inverter and now I have an outlet in the truck and still one in the bin.
Also have a small inverter that runs mainly my laptop.
