Spent $400.. Took it all apart twice.. Started it, it would not idle.. Running rough.. Then water pouring out of tail pipe.....Cracked block somewhere.. I'd like to save this truck but not sure what to do... Finding a used engine from 1989?.. Trust some shop and buy a rebuilt?...any thoughts?..How much is it worth?.. Head rebuilt.. new tires... good manual transmission.. body is straight... needs paint and interior work...

i dont know how hard it is to find a z24 motor in LA, but in Australia they are around 400 AUD, which should be cheaper on your side of the world. good luck

It's hard to crack the block on the Z24. Are you sure it isn't just a blown head gasket?
Here is a low mileage engine, if you can find out how to get it shipped to you. http://www.ebay.com/itm/132173037125

I just had the head redone.. Everything is new.. When I started it rough idle..at 1500rpm sounded fine..Drove it 1/2 mile started to sound strange.. Came out to spray carb cleaner looking for a vacuum leak and water and white smoke coming out of tail pipe... Everything torqued correct.. Felpro head gasket.. It should last longer than 1/2 mile..Head shop said it was pressure checked and a good head... But no water in oil..just blowing out tail pipe..

Possibly a coolant leak into the intake manifold. It's a thing that happens sometimes.
But, sounds like YOUR particular problem is solved. ![]()

The V6 engine has coolant passages that go through the intake. I imagine the Z24 does, too.
