Hey yall, now that the D21 is gone and I have always wanted a muscle car I have my sights on 2006 Pontiac GTO's. I have been doing some research on these cars and it seems like people that have one have nothing but good to say. Anybody have one or know somebody that has one???? Thanks...

great platform - pretty bullet proof with a LS based engine and t56 6speed. Parts and aftermarket for days... bolt on's and a dyno tune would make a mean daily.
Not sure what auto trans they use (4l60 or 4l80) but if its a 4l60 that will be your weak point if you build it a bit or thrash on it.

my friend has one. its the same as any other domestic car. lots of power, archaic design and drives kinda shitty compared to any import. however compared to a loose floaty d21 it will drive like a racecar.
they have the same problems with age as any other car. its 12years old at its newest. keep that in mind. bushings rot, rubber hardens and breaks, spotwelds fatigue etec. I drive a 2006 and its getting tired even with only 135k on it. |

We have six running/licensed vehicles, and none are as new as 2006.

I have not owned one, but had an 01 Camaro SS with a full bolt-on LS1, and 4L60e. Fun car all around.
As others have said, they are a good, easy platform for horsepower with either the LS1 or 6.0. 6.0 has some fancier styling than the 5.7. LS-based engines are great. T56 is preferred. Automatic-wise an 04 should have a 4l60e, 05-06 had the 4l65e. I was always a bit leery of the IRS they all come with. I don't believe it has any real issues, just preferred a straight axle myself

Thanks bro,I agree and that is all true but for the $$$ it seems like a good choice. I would not buy one with over 75K on it or one with super duper power mods... You can pick up Mustangs all day long that are ragged out as well. I would be choosey and get one with low miles and no mods. Then have wear and tear items replaced. Anybody got a better idea short of a Corvette?
