Default 1996 pickup heater core?

Has anybody successfully put an aftermarket core in one of these trucks?

I pulled the dash and the heater core and the oreillys part doesn’t seem to fit very well. There aren’t provisions for the hard pipes to mount up. Also the plastic ‘keeper’ doesn’t fit over the core.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The cores changed a bit over the years. I just replaced the one in my 87 pathfinder. The catalog part did not fit. It was way smaller. The core for a 95 hardbody was a better fit.

The parts guy showed the same part number for similar years. At the very least it looks like the hose between the valve and the hard pipes was the leak point so I can reuse the stock core, just frustrating that the aftermarket parts are completely wrong and Nissan doesn’t supply them anymore. Thanks for the help.

I embedded the pictures for you. Hopefully, they resize OK for everyone because they are HUGE!!!!

So, will O'Reilly take their junk back? Or are you still going to use parts of their system?

Sorry about that, I haven’t really done much forum posting before mostly reading. And they should take it back, it wasn’t ‘installed’.

You have the core installed wrong. Take it out of the heater box and flip it around 180 degrees.
