I got lucky on the Napa Temp/Four Seasons one I got for Hector - it has the sight glass. However, I understand the glass isn't really necessary with R134 systems.

Success! Hector lives! Turns out the MAF had become unplugged, causing the injectors to dump excess fuel which went into the oil pan.
Now to sort out the high idle (~1500 rpm).
