Unhappy Hood flew open while driving last night, i screamed like a girl.

My hood was completely shut. I never even opened it yesterday, but when i passed an 18 wheeler on the highway at 11pm in the rain my hood flew open and i nearly shit my pants. I sat there on the side of the road before i eventually strapped it back down not noticing how badly it was damaged. I didn't even look at it last night until this morning and man... this sucks. I can't drive it like this. lol

What do you call the piece of metal between the hood and windshield with the vents and where the windshield wipers stick out from? Because that definitely needs replaced but i don't know what it's called so i cant find it. Also, my windshield wipers aren't working at all, i really hope it's just some wire got disconnected or something. Looks like i will be taking a trip to my local pick n' pull...

I still have no idea why this happened, my truck does bounce around alot with what little suspension it has. (Blocks in the rear, and dropped all the way in the front) Do you think it unlocked itself with all the bumps i hit going over bridges? Has this ever happened to you?

in MD driving without a hood is illegal - I would imagine that it would be illegal in most states... Its a danger to pedestrians or something like that haha, after you hit them the hood is meant to protect them from fans, belts and a hot engine...

i think im going to try an salvage this hood, spend a day beating out the dents and buy some hood pins. You know, kind of like how racecars hoods are where they come completely off. still need to replace the piece of metal around the wipers though.

How did your windshield fair? Dont look to bad just need some hood hinges, hood and wiper cowl. Glad your ok, i bet you had to pull the seat out of ur behind. I would of been the same way. Oh besure to snag hood lock also if you plan on using it again.
