Default AC fast idle valve/solenoid

which one of these is the flipping AC idle up solenoid? when i redid my AC the fast idle was working perfectly.

yesterday i noticed it was idling really low when the air was on. i investigated. no AC, idle is about 850 or so. turn the AC on, you hear the compressor click and the idle drops to around 400 or 500. its barely running.

i havent checked the codes, but im pretty sure its the damn AC idle up valve. which one is it in this picture? the image shows a fast idle control and the idle up solenoid.

87 V6 btw. and what is the correct autozone or orielly term for this part so i can get a new one? thanks.

It is the one labeled Idle Up Solenoid Valve. It is next to the FICD solenoid.

Caddy, I don't know the 87 Service Manual nearly as well as the 94 version. On mine, though, I have a sensor that detects when the A/C turns on (or when the Power Steering is being used) that triggers the idle to go higher.

You could have a bad signal (dead sensor, broken wire, corroded connection, etc) from the A/C.

Since I do not have A/C, you'll have to look around on your A/C unit for some sort of sensor that is not plugged in.

is that the sensor that is on the hard line by the power steering pump? i think i know where that one is located. im gonna check for codes this weekend. i started a new job monday and its whipping my ass.

its something intermittent, the truck was doing fine this morning when i went to work. then i came out from the store and it was idling low again. i will find it. i just wasnt sure which throttle body sensor was for the AC, and that fucker is 50 bucks on ebay, 62 at autozone.

oh well.

The idle up solenoid for your truck should be on the throttle body I think. Mine is but I have the four cylinder.

yeah it is on there. there are two. and i dont know why the image i posed changed......must be something over on alldata where i linked it from.

the 2 that are on the V6 are defined as long and short hex headed. the AC one is the shorter shanked one.

i should have left well enough alone. its been running like a top. i guess it remembered i had money when i replaced the master cylinder and upgraded the door speakers (again) last week. damn truck got me for 175 bucks last week.

good thing the better half got paid. she never missed the 60 bucks i dropped on my new speakers haha and whats even funnier is i changed them in the driveway saturday morning before she woke up and noticed i was not in the bed. by the time she was awake and on the steps watching me i was telling her to get her shoes on to come pump the pedal while i bled the system.

and the shitty thing is that a rebuilt master cyl came with no reservoir and it was 75 bucks. i said forget it and got a new one for 95 bucks. i had a 20% off coupon autozone had sent me in the mail and i used it on the last day. hey it saved me 19 bucks off the new one and i still got a credit point on my rewards card.

and the job change...........im still driving a truck but now im working for a local company that has its hands in about every recycling outfit from here to atlanta to birmingham to nashville.

hauled a load of crushable aluminum scrap today to monroe, tn right below the dale hollow lake on the KY line, then reloaded with refined and shredded iron and took it to cartersville ga then home for the day.

i have been trying to get dump truck experience, and cause i had none, i could never get any time in one. well screw them fools who wouldnt give me a shot. this place has dump trucks too. hauled around a vertical hydraulic dump bed trailer today. pretty different side to trucking. i dont wait to get unloaded, i wait in line, back up, open doors, engage the PTO and dump my shit and pull forward to empty it out and im done. close doors and go on about my beeswax.
