well i just went outside with a light and a couple screw drivers. i didnt know exactly where to put the screw driver and listen but what i came up with was i heard no ticking noise on either valve cover in several places. i got a ticking on the heat shields and a ticking on the injectors and anywhere on the fuel rail. the most distinct ticking seemed to me to be on the injector that is below the little triangular shaped gap in the intake where you go down in that gap to get to it (which would be driverside of the motor). but like i said i could hear ticking pretty much anywhere involving the injectors or fuel rail.

Before you do something expensive try some Lucas fuel injector treatment or take it and have a BG Injector cleaning service performed

It will only take a few minutes to take the shields off and take a look. Look for cracks and brown studs. The furthest back studs like to break. You can see the furthest back on the passenger side with the shield on. If all you see is threads of the stud, it is broken. Should be a bolt and a spacer.
