Nope! I'd run like hell! GL5 spec is corrosive to yellow metals no matter of they say its good or not. GL4 spec is non corrosive to yellow metals. A good time of thumb is if it says anything about GL5 on it do NOT use it.

I hope I'm wrong but I expect a post about getting a tranny rebuilt in about a year or less. Happens every time.

The EP additives used in GL4 and GL5 are acidic. GL4 has a very low content. GL5 has a much higher content. Combine that with heat and you etch away the brass synchros.

96 No Options says in part:

Quote:
'Changed the manual steering gearbox oil. Used a pump to drain it as best I could and filled with more Mobil1 75w90 GL-5. This oil was pretty clean and I can't feel any difference in the steering. Probably a waste of time but whatever - now I know it's good..."
That should work. For a second I thought you meant your manual TRANNY. LOL...I would have subjected you to my big spiel about how GL-5 turns your transmission's brass synchros black...and then turns them to mush.

Thank God you were saved from all that speech. NEVER put GL-5 into a manual Nissan trans or you will shopping for another trans. Gearbox and rear end are okay, though. They don't have brass parts in there.

That's cool. Our town canceled it because some people are scared of the Coronavirus.

Gonna be a good show! We have a 20HP welder/generator set up in the back. It's a roughly 700lb setup. Should be the largest show in the county and we don't even have all of the explosives out yet!

The county sheriff told us to run it so we are.

Sounds great. Town where I live, they have no shows. They just tell everyone it's against the law to set them off. Cops all over. People set off mass stuff anyway.

The whole arrangement in Auburn, WA is soooo phony anyway. Right outside of town the Muckleshoot Indian tribe sells mass quantities of the 'good stuff' and even the really illegal stuff if you know someone. They also financially support events held by the city. At one time, even the off duty cops would run security at the fireworks stands. This setup sells more fireworks than you could believe...at least twenty stands in the same place and sales go on for two weeks.

Auburn...sounds like a war zone. Auburn...makes it illegal to do this. They have signs all over town, 'If it GOES up, or BLOWS up...it is illegal in Auburn!' they say. Yeah...right. This is about the phoniest arrangement I have ever seen. Did I tell you that they have one of the biggest casinos in the state just outside of town as well? It is a bunch of BS, back-scratching, crap. A money thing for everybody. The cops usually ticket a few people over the 4th, and a couple go to jail maybe. The other 74,000 people just do what they want.

Made up adapter harnesses to use a later model radio in my truck. Managed to get the switched and constant power wires switched, so I need to either switch those wires or remember to turn it off until I get my replacement radio.
Also came up with an idea to repair the "brushed aluminum" trim on my dash and add it to the trim panel around the automatic climate control.

It's a similar situation where I live. Fireworks are technically banned here but there are several stands around town. I guess it's only illegal to set them off, not to buy or have them in your possession. Either way it's not really enforced.

I haven't blown anything up in several years now. Lol I think I probably did enough of it to last a lifetime when I was a kid.

Last time I shot off fireworks, I had a mortar decide to go off at ground level inside the tube.

Think my ears are still ringing from that one.
Neighbors shot (and are still shooting at 12:30am) a good bit of stuff.

We had a couple low breaks. I shot 3" morters this year. We also set off a string of 16,000 black cats. That was rather awesome!JJust got home. Im wiped. Time to be out there early again for cleanup in about 6 hours.

May have bruised my arm trying to hold a 1.75" tube with a significant charge of black powder in the bottom as a lift charge and the tube packed full of bottle rockets! That was exciting! We filled a soda can with as many bottle rockets as we could and wrapped quick match around it to light all the fuses at once. Turned into a giant ball of fire and explosions. Well worth it!
