Default ‘96 Dash lights only on after hitting center of Dash

My ‘96 D21 has a problem with the lights being out on the entire dash. I have experimented with the light stalk on the column. This yielded no results.
The lights do return if I give the dash a whack left of center. They’ll sometimes stay on for the drive, but typically will go out again quickly.
Is there a connection behind the cluster that causes this type of issue.
Thanks.
Will

I would suspect the dimmer switch has a loose or bad connection. It's the dial in the center section next to the hazard switch.

If your referring to the gauge cluster lights, I would pull the cluster and check all the Phillip head screws on the back to make sure they are tight, may want to clean the copper contacts on the 2 big plus that go into the cluster, if you do this, be careful, just use a pencil eraser and go easy.
