Default Dome light repair

The dome light on my '91 D21 isn't working. I check for power at the dome light itself—no power there. I checked for power at the door push pin—no power there. I checked the fuse and it's good. I pulled the door sill trim thinking the wiring that runs to the push pin and on up to the dome light runs under it, but that's not where the wire runs. Can someone help? (BTW: I also want to install under dash lights, and want to tie into the door push pin.) Thanks!

The door push button supplies GROUND to the dome light at the back of my cab. I was able to remove a screw and the door switch to check the connector and switch. The switch is what you call "normally closed" in other words, when the button is NOT depressed, the switch connects both sides. supplying ground to the light. Also check continuity between one side or the other from the door switch connector to one side of the light fixture connector.. Now you can decide if your light lacks positive (present all the time at connector to light) OR missing GROUND (negative) to light connector. I thought I had wiring problems, instead it was a problem with the light fixture. Finding a light fixture that matches OEM is the REAL trick. I ordered one and it was smaller than the original. I mounted it to the OEM baseplate. I would bet your problem is between the light fixture connector and the light bulb. Check there first. I had the same problem with my map light, above the dash.

Default Good info on door push switch.

Good info on door push switch. If it supplies ground, of course it won't light up the circuit tester. Your suggestion on a faulty dome light is a good one, but I am installing a new one that matches OEM, so it is unlikely the new one is bad. Using the circuit tester, I checked for a hot wire on the dome light wiring with the door push switch in the open position—no power. I guess I'll just have to start tracing the hot wire to the dome light back to source. Thanks for the help!

Default Checked fuse for dome light is labeled "Room Light"

I'm still chasing the reason my dome light isn't working. The fuse I checked is labeled "Room Light."
