I did the same thing with my 1999.
Only the driver side needs to be modified.

60/40 seats. Cut off the part that goes over the hump. Trim the foam.

Sew up the old seat cover.
Install fancy seat covers.

Not that hard to do.
Just take your time.

Works great.
