Do some of your own research about "seating valves" and "valve seat grinding". It can be done by you, just need a few basic tools, a valve spring compressor tool, a drill and a bunch of patience. The patience is the replacement for "experience", just be aware.

Personally, I'd let the pros do the work..... but this is me. I'm not a totally qualified mech. There could also be other issues, with the heads, that only an experienced mech might catch during the rebuild.

OK thanks so much for the input. I'll will research those topics, and I'll call around tomorrow to see just how expensive head work is in my area. I'll come back and update this thread when I have more info!

I’d estimate $500-$600 to do both heads. Consider changing out the TB, water pump, tensioner bearing and crank seal. You’ll also need new valve cover gaskets and a head gasket set. It’s also a good time to change out all the coolant and vacuum hoses.

At $600 I'd be looking for an entire VG30 or VG33. My VG33 cost me around $750 shipped from southern California. But that is a more difficult job and you might as well do the clutch while you are in there.
