So I changed out my old deteriorated fuel filler neck hose today(took about 1 hr.) with a new one that connects the filler neck to the fuel tank. Old original hose to the truck had 5 small slits in the hose near the top. But below the end of the metal fuel filler neck tube where the #8.0 clamp holds the hose on. The leaks are causing a P1447 small EVAP leak when the Check Engine Light comes on.
The new hose was easy to install along with the install of the clamps. I realigned the tank clamps on the hose to better access it from underneath using a long #2 Philips screwdriver. As the clamp was originally installed at an angle that made it VERY difficult to access. I ordered the hose through eBay for $42 w/free shipping and it wasn't the exact part number for my year truck. So I took a chance and it all worked out. I don't have a photo of the part number of the hose I used. But I will update this post likely tomorrow with the part number used. Update on the P/N..per the eBay listing. The filler hose fits model years from 1994-1995. I didn't believe it. Only because it D21 is D21 all day long. Might be small differences in some parts when assembled per the year. But up to model year 1995 will fit a 1997 D21 like mine. The P/N is the last attached photo. If the tank end clamp is turned to face down. It is MUCH easier to access rather than trying to go OVER to te frame. Which gives you almost zero room to work. Even with a u-joint and a 1/4" dr. ratchet and sockets is very difficult to access. Not impossible. Just seriously difficult to access and remove. Items and tools needed: - both hose clamps are a Size 8.0 - can use either a 1/4" dr. 7mm or 9/32" sockets on the clamp heads - #2 Philips short and long shank screwdriver - dry graphite or WD-40 to loosen or tighten and turn the worm gear clamp more easily Hope this helps someone that needs to do this repair! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by PorknBeans; 01-23-2021 at 10:06 PM. |

hit the junkyard for a dash, truck was already taken though. i shoulda checked inventory but didn’t like a dummy and drove up there for nothing lol. ended up going to another yard and finding an un-cracked passenger side blinker lens and a passenger side bumper bracket since mine is bent. also grabbed the fender liners for when i change to the 4wd fenders i won’t have to worry about those. also cleaned my MAF sensor, but it wasn’t too bad so it didn’t change anything lol.

Checked my non-working horn today and couldn't figure out WHY it wasn't working. So upon further circuit inspection. I found that the horn relay was completely missing! I don't know why it is missing. But I recall relay testing under the dashboard and I perhaps removed the horn's relay for some reason. I dunno. I don't recall removing it. Plus, the clip on relay cover under the hood on the right side of the truck was secured in place. So no chance of it growing legs and walking off. So to say an open circuit exists for the horn to work is an understatement.
In following the schematics. Starting at the battery, it is strong since I had the truck idling while doing the test of the horn. The 10A fuse tests good for continuity. As well as the fuse seats. The horn relay holder and seats are next. The seats test good for power. But no relay present appears to be the elephant in the room. I could make jumpers. But I don't want to short something out. So I'll wait for a relay to control the voltages safely. Horn works upon last check. So I'll leave the horn alone for now. Next, the spiral clock. Which the original one was replaced with a good used one and with the replacement spiral clock replaced. My SRS lamp turned off. So I believe this part is in good working order. I don't have cruise control(ASCD switch)since I have 5-spd gear box. So the horn relay that is MIA appears to be the culprit. So off to find a replacement relay... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Checked my work today which is about 8 days later for any power steering oil leaks from the molded reservoir hose I installed and found zero leakage! I had used Gunk engine degreaser to clean away any oil and residue so I could see any fresh leak(s). But the area is clean and dry! Problem fixed!
Also spotted a couple of circa 1985 SoCal mini truck club members of "Thee Erotic Ones"(that's the way it was spelled on club flyers and mini truck clubs back in the day) rolling down the freeway in their classic decked out mini trucks rolling down the freeway with me as I was driving home from work today. So I decided to snap a pic and share. Notes:The white truck has original CA plates from the 1986 time period when CA was issuing that style plate which had a golden colored sun and yellow stripes to denote rays of sunshine. Hence CA's nickname, "The Golden State". My mom's 1986 Ford Econoline F-150 van still has these vintage plates and are original to the van. The truck in front has a fresh take on a vintage black & yellow plate that CA brought back for folks that want that "vintage" license plate look. But you have to pay extra money each year for a set. In addition to your normal registration fees. OUCH! My dad had a 1965 Chevy Biscayne 4 door with a "3 on the tree" transmission that had these black and yellow plates on the vehicle. I love those old school mini trucking' days! Takes me back to my high school days when one of the popular kids rolled up after school in his fire engine red standard cab 1985 Nissan truck with Center Line 15" aluminum rims, lowered, booming sound system and clean and shiny that made me want one. Took me until 1989 to get my first king cab D21 with the Nap-Z engine and 8 yrs. and 330k miles after that. I got my 1997 king cab D21 that I still drive to this very day. Truck ran so smooth today. I didn't want to stop driving! I felt my commute home today was much too short! I'll do it all over again in the morning... Enjoy the photo! ![]() Last edited by PorknBeans; 01-25-2021 at 01:40 AM. |

Yea, I remember those black plates. I was in Redlands, 76'-78'. Don't see many (up here) these days.
