Driving with the blower on 2, stopped to pick up dinner, blower didn't come on. Worked on high only. Checked both fuses. OK Checked resister. OK Continuity on all terminals. Need to check the switch next. I'm thinking it's a bad ground to the switch. Anyone else have this happen??? Solutions???? |

Typically when the blower only works on high it’s because the blower motor resistor is bad. I’ve had the blower motor itself starting to go out and it burned up the resistor. I had to replace both.

Believe underdash, passenger side, near blower motor.

Remove the lower panel under the glove box. Probably 6 screws. The resistor is facing you, it has a three prong plug and it is held by two screws on the evap box. Click the link I post and look at the third picture. It shows the resistor on a non AC truck, but it is in the same location if the truck has AC. The evap box is there instead of the crossover tube to the heater core.

Worked on it today, during the day, so I had more light.
Everything points to a bad resister. It's easy to get to. No panels need to be removed. Two screws, connector, and it's out. When I tested it on the bench, All was good. Checked rest of the wiring, and all was good. plugged in the resister and tested it again. No good. Resister had a cracked solder joint, that would lose contact, when plugged in. Cleaned it up. Resoldered. All is good. |
