Default What did you pay for your D21?

So, in late 1999 I needed another vehicle and went looking.

Saw my 89', with a hand written FS sheet in the back window, at an event the wife and I attended. I called the number, test drove the truck and gave 3500 for her in early 2000. She was owned by a cop, was a hand-me-down from his father, who bought it new. So, I'm the 3rd owner and the truck has moved me 3 times, one distance was ~1500 miles.

In the 20 years I've had this HB, it's never left me stranded..... but I am now considering if I want to replace it with something newer, since I'm not!

Do you know the history on your ride? What did you give for your copy?

Im 3rd owner of my truck. First owner died and his daughter kept it in a climate controlled garage for about 5 years with monthly drives to keep it alive, then the guy I bought it from got it and had it for about 6 months. It came with 2 sets of wheels and fender flares that were never mounted. Paid $3400 for it.

Ive had the truck for something like 12 years now. Here is it the day I brought it home:

And how it looks now:

How it looks inside:

paid 3000 cash in 2002 with 100k miles on it.
Bought it from an older spanish bask guy that worked as a gardener for a middle school.
He took it to the dealership to do a trade-in but they wouldn't give him more than 1-2k for it so he sold it to me for 3k.

A couple months later one of my friends had an account on carfax and I looked up the VIN. At some point in the past it was listed as salvage title.
On close inspection, one of the extra cab windows had been replaced and maybe some work done inside the divers side door and random places around the truck but everything looks original and untouched from new. If it was totaled they restored it like new and can't even tell anything unless you have a fine tooth comb.
Never had a problem with it in 18 years. Except I redid the clutch recently and pretty sure it was original.

$15,500 brand new. I still have the dealer's window sticker!

And to think. I was looking for a 1990-1991 GMC K-5 two tone truck before I bought my D21. I still want one to restore with an orange body and white roof. Or a '56 Jeep Willys Wagon restored. Orange color body and lifted.

$500 Canadian in 2019. 200km on odometer

Tires looked like hamburger meat. Rust around fenders. Lots of minor issues.

But frame, engine and transmission are good.

My dad was the 1st owner of mine. When he brought it home, I was in love with it. I had never seen a 1-ton Nissan pick-up. Dad told me that there was still a white one on the lot, but there was no way a kid using the GI Bill to get through college could afford a car note.

He worked it hard, and only fixed what he had to. When he broke the leaf springs, he replaced them with regular cab leaf springs instead of the Heavy Duty springs because those were cheap in the junkyard. The lights (headlights and taillights) did not work, the tailgate had been smashed when a tree fell on it, there was no AC or radio, and my nephew had replaced the stock bench seat with a set of bucket seats out of a boat while he was learning to drive.

Around 2010, he gave it to me because nobody would accept it as a trade-in, and he knew that I always wanted it.

Picture of how it looked when I took over at 180k miles.

I'm at 274,562 miles now.
