Bought this d21 off of a dude for 800 bucks. Iím new to wrenching around, but Iíve always wanted a d21 since I had taken a liking for cars years ago. Iíve finally got one, and all the help you guys would supply would be greatly appreciated. (She has her problems) 😬

To give one of my problems for one of you overly intelligent about Nissan kind of people on this forum, I released my handbrake to drive my car, and the light doesn’t go off indicating the handbrake is still on. However, it’s totally off. Any idea guys?

that is one sharp looking truck, luke !!!

i will defer to the real experts on this one...
although it sounds like the brake light indicator switch plunger is binding up, like on a glove box or door switch...and not releasing

this may show your part

So, the rear brakes are loose? You can drive?

BTW, my handbrake occasionally needs to be pushed in a little to turn off the light. I have been meaning to clean up the shaft of the handle and look for a return spring. I am sure it is not engaging the e-brake until I pull the handle out a couple of inches, so no big woop.

Is it the dash mounted brake or between the seats? There is a pin on the dash brake model that falls out. When that happens, the switch isn’t pressed and the light will not go out. The pin is about one inch long. It is a punch or a roll pin and the only to put it back in (if you find it) is to take the entire housing out of the truck. Oh hell no. I used a zip tie to keep the switch depressed. No more brake warning light.

Check your brake fluid level.

if you have leds installed it could be the issue it happened to me when I installed leds in the cluster so I had to remove the one for the ebrake and use a incandescent bulb

Grease the swing arm under the cab, the one with the cables attached to it. It is not returning to the rest position. Spray it with lube while someone work the handle inside the cab. There is a youtube video on the subject.
