Marko if you still have your trans on the floor, take the front half off and pull the first gear off of the counter shaft and see if the woodruff keys are still there. I have the same exact problem that you have but havent taken my trans down yet. If the keys are sheared off then no power will transfer to the counter shaft.

i threw the trans back together, but that is an excellent theory. nothing visually looks broken there but since i got another trans now to put in i may as well dissect this one some more.

cheers

I rebuilt my transmission about a year ago and I still have some pictures of the guts kicking around somewhere, although photobucket probably wants $400 a year for them. I can re-upload them if it would help.

throw them on imgur if you have a few minutes. i am sure me and lazypanther arent the only ones who will run into this issue.

i just got the 86 trans swapped in. only moved the speed sensor over from the newer trans, everything else appears to be the same.

cheers!

Alright, cool. I'll go through the old thread and see if the pictures are still working. Sorry, I couldn't find a picture of the countershaft with the first gear removed.

This brings up another problem with my trans that im sure others have had and will run into. When ever I shift gears and let off the clutch or let off the gas the trans would make a clanking noise like the gears had excessive play in them. Its been doing it for awhile and I was going to just rebuild it thinking that the bearings were shot but now that this has happened I think differently. I thinking that the keys are like an early warning that its time for a rebuild. I think thats why its the only gear thats not built into the shaft or splined in.
