Just took my time. Go slow and be OCD. Literally every time I removed something or a bolt for something it went into a ziploc bag with a label. I had dozens of baggies with anywhere from 1 to a dozen bolts or screws in them. No longer have any baggies for my kitchen.

Got my oil pressure gauge on the dash working too. It reads lower than the mechanical one by at least 5 pounds. Showed 60PSI when the mechanical one read 65PSI. Also reacts super slow. Stoked everything on the dash is now functional again. Was pulling a solid 20 inches of vacuum. Can't as for better than that. Not only was it good vacuum there wasn't so much as a flicker in the gauge at idle.

Really hoping the diff goes in easy tomorrow. Really want to be driving it by noon. And its stupid low on fuel. Oops! The ethanol has probably killed my fuel by now.

I'm curious to see what kind of MPGs I get. Its killing me to be this close to driving it. Going to drive it for a week, load it up on the trailer and drive it back home when I drop off my dads truck and trailer. Should be a good test. 3 hours on the highway and going from 4200ft to almost 6000ft and down to 800ft elevation.

Motor was $950, I think.
Accessory brackets, $50
Lower radiator hose, $18
Clutch $120
Misc paint, probably $20
Idler tensioner, $10
Used throttle cable, $10
Oil, $25
Coolant, $20ish
Oil filter Napa Gold, $6.50
Oil filter bracket, $20
Belts, $10
Timing kit, $35
Vacuum plugs, $5
Power steering fluid, $12?
Alternator, $150ish
Power steering pump, $120ish
I'm probably missing something.

Total is about $1600-1700 plus some of my blood. I'm trying not to think about what it cost. Still probably cheaper than having someone pull, rebuild and install my old one. As long as it goes another 31 years I'm happy. Even though I'm not rich or anything I didn't skimp on quality. Rock auto helped with costs and I got some deals at the junk yard. Also spent $60 on some warn hubs from the junk yard which appeared to be never used.

I'm pretty sure the most difficult task I ever completed on my black truck was reinstalling the diff after I dropped the oil pan to seal it up. I thought I was going to have to remove a torsion bar. Genuinely a pain in the ass and not something I ever want to try again.

I couldn't get mine out without dropping the t bars. They are out and the motor is lifted a little and still its a pain in the ass.

I remember that one time I dropped my front diff with an angle grinder and never ever installed it again

I seriously considered paying some poor sap to install the diff. It was that bad. We had 2 floor jacks and a bottle jack plus some pry bars and wood to lift and coax it into place. Plus I had to unbolt and lift the motor. The entire thing took about 5 hours today. So, still not driving it. Gotta burp the clutch, bolt the motor back in and finish preloading the torsion bars before I can drive it. I plan that for tomorrow. I really hope I can drive it to work on Tuesday.

Not going to mess with the timing. I think its stupid close. It idles smooth enough you can almost balance a coin on the air cleaner. It is stupid smooth.
