Yep, you should. One way to check is to jack up the back of the truck and spin one of the wheels. If you have an open diff the wheel on the other side will spin in the opposite direction.

I would humbly advise against anything bigger than a small teardrop or 8-10' camper. They get heavy pretty quickly once you load in all your gear. My folks have a 19' camper they tow with our 4runner...

Any old 75w-90 or 80w-90 gear oil will work just fine. No need to buy the expensive stuff. GL-5 is fine since there aren't any soft metal parts in there to worry about.
