What to look for in a WD21 pathfinder

Hello, first time poster here.
Ive been lurking on this forum keeping my D21 alive for a couple of years.
I appreciate each and every post by you guys, it helped me keep my truck running long enough to finish my education.
Sadly it developed a rodknock, with 2 more rod bearings starting to go sloppy, and with a transmission already being limped along. So I've decided to let it go.

Because of where I'm at right now and what I need in a vehicle, I'm looking for a first gen pathfinder, two door or four door.

What should I look for beyond the obvious dip$h!t used car stuff, and the general D21 issues? I had the 2wd KA24E D21, so I'm not all that familiar with the VG30 or the pathfinder. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

P.S., are the automatic pathfinder transmissions decent or should I expect trouble?

With the VG30 your primary concern will be the timing belt. When was it last replaced? Do they have any proof of when it was last replaced? If these answers aren’t known, it’s best to assume it is due a timing belt very soon. I wouldn’t say this is necessarily a bad thing anyway. It’s a great opportunity to do a lot of preventative maintenance while you’re at it. Plugs, wires, coolant hoses, belts. Get all that stuff while you’re in there and set yourself up to have fewer problems in the future.

My dad got well over 200k from the auto in his Xe-V6 hardbody. My nephew lost the auto in his 92 pathfinder only a week or two after he bought it with 1??k miles. They’re hit or miss.

Don't buy a 93 like I did, unless it's a SE 4x4 like I did. Timing belts, I can do mine in my sleep. I've taken the front half of my VG engine so many times now I'm a pro.

Rust, the frames rust so be sure to look the underside over good.

Run from the auto trans. You just never know how long an auto trans will live.

Get a 5 speed if you can. Frame inspection is a must depending on location in the US due to salt used in winter times on roads.
